Have you ever tried to crochet a circle, but instead it turns into a hexagon?
If you use pattern below, your circle will look more like a hexagon. This is because the increases are positioned in the same spot each round.
R1: sc 6 [total 6 sts]
R2: inc x6 [12]
R3: (inc, sc) x6 [18]
R4: (inc, sc 2) x6 [24]
R5: (inc, sc 3) x6 [30]
R6: (inc, sc 4) x6 [36]…
To make a perfect circle, instead of placing increases directly above each other in subsequent rounds, alternate their positions. If you increase at the beginning of a round one time, do it halfway through the next round the next time.
