Sunburst Granny Square Crochet Tutorial

Materials:
100% Cotton yarn DK yarn (color light pink, dark pink, green)
3.5mm or 6/0 crochet hook
Tapestry needle
Scissors

ABBREVIATIONS (US Crochet Terms)

MR: Magic Ring
st(s): stitch(es)
sl st: slip stitch
ch: chain
hdc: half double crochet
dc: double crochet
tr: treble crochet
2-dc cl: 2 double crochet cluster
3-dc cl: 3 double crochet cluster
4-dc cl: 4 double crochet cluster
R: Round
[#]: number of stitche(s) in a row/round

PATTERN

R1: MR, ch 3. Dc 15.
Join with sl st to first dc. Total 16 dcs, including ch 3.
Fasten off and cut yarn.

For the next rounds, we’ll be working into the spaces between the stitches or clusters—not into the tops of the stitches. 

R2: Join new color with standing 2-dc cl in any space.
(ch 1, 2-dc cl) in each space around — 16 clusters.
Ch 1, join with sl st to first cl.
Fasten off and cut yarn.

R3: Join new color with standing 3-dc cl in any space between clusters.
(ch 2, 3-dc cl) around — 16 clusters.
Ch 2, join with sl st to first cl.
Fasten off and cut yarn.

R4: Join new color with standing 4-dc cl in any space between clusters.
(ch 3, 4-dc cl) around — 16 clusters.
Ch 3, join with sl st to first cl.
Fasten off and cut yarn.

R5 (Squaring Round): Join a new color in any space: (3 tr, ch 3, 3 tr) — this forms a corner.
Next: 3 dc, 3 hdc, 3 dc.
Repeat around.
Join with sl st to first tr.

R6 (Border): Using the same color with R5: Ch 1, sc around.
In each corner ch-3 space: 3 sc.
Join with invisible join.
